When we return water to rivers, it’s often cleaner than when we took it out.
Revere Copper is dedicated to clean air, earth and water. One perfect example is our water treatment systems, which comply with, or exceed, all state regulations. Using our thorough water processing steps, Revere often returns water to the natural environment with lower copper levels than when it arrived at our mills through municipal water intake.
Understanding the A B Cs of Scope 1 2 3 Emissions
Revere is proud of its carbon footprint and is committed to greenhouse gas (GHG) emission standards to ensure a healthy planet for generations to come. Toward that end, we are mindful of the three emission scopes – globally accepted as the standard GHG accounting scale, as established by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. At Revere, we have routinely put these principles into practice for many years. Below is an overview of what each scope entails.
Scope 1
Refers to the emissions generated by the operations of a particular company – such as Revere Copper, as well as virtually every business in America. These may be released from controlled assets, including (but not limited to):
- Combustion of fuels for heating or other industrial activity
- Company vehicle emissions
- Fugitive emissions from refrigeration/HVAC units
- Any GHGs released during industrial/manufacturing processes
How do we address Scope 1 emissions?
By opting for clean energy sources wherever possible, and by actively seeking out improved efficiencies and GHG reduction steps.
Scope 2
Refers to indirect greenhouse gases released from energy that is being purchased from a utility provider. In other words, for Revere this means the electricity or other energy we purchase from outside sources. In reality, these emissions physically occur at the point of generation (such as a power plant) but as the user we account for them in our own GHG inventory.
How do we address Scope 2 emissions?
By working closely with our utility suppliers, seeking out new green energy sources, emphasizing regionally sourced electricity where possible and demanding the highest standards from all of our energy suppliers.
Scope 3
Refers to all other indirect emissions associated with our company. These may occur across the entire value chain: either upstream, downstream or both. While such emissions are typically beyond our control, Revere prioritizes this topic and is committed to continuing to reduce this part of the carbon footprint.
How do we address Scope 3 emissions?
By using our leverage as a leader in environmental protection and holding our business partners to the same high standards as Revere. We expect our industry partners, suppliers and colleagues to provide GHG transparency and to continuously strive for emissions improvements.
